Oink Oink

Pot pies, pot pies, pot pies... that is all I can think about .... result will be a pot belly pig. There is a stall at the market near me called Simple Simon Pies that makes the most delicious pot pies that I have ever tasted in MY LIFE...... I AM AN ADDICT and I am all too willing to admit it and constantly feed my addiction.
My knitting has been put to the side...I have to get the socks done for my mom's birthday (Feb 19th) but I am really not motivated...actually I don't even want to look at them. We are returning back to Ontario very soon and I have been busy with planning (well not really planning but thinking about planning ... planning to plan).
We are not sure if we are going to fly or drive... I would love to fly but am too scared to put Ruby in cargo. Just look at this face, does this look like a dog that could handle being tossed around in cargo???????

Confessions of a very irresponsible blogger

Christmas is over and obviously a new year has begun and believe me it has been a very exciting new year so far. You can just see the excitement on Ruby's face... she can barely contain herself. In this picture she has just received the news that she is going to be a big sister in July (yes I am pregnant) and I'm not sure she is up to the challenge. She has however become very very protective of me and won't let any other dog near me.....actually she won't even let Sri get very close to me with pushing her way in between. Now an update on the knitting front. I know a lot of you faithful readers are wondering if I got all of my Christmas gifts finished and the answer is YES... all finished and beautiful although the vest that I made for my mom was too small and I'm not sure she was really fond of the colour choices I made. I am dying to knit something for the baby but I just can't settle on one project that I am in love with. When I don't have anything specific to knit I can find a million projects that I want to make and now that I want to knit with a purpose I can't find a damn thing. If anyone has any suggestions I would be really glad to hear them. I am going for my 18 week ultrasound soon, I think that is when they can determine the sex of the baby...... that might make picking a project a lot easier. Below is the start of my Mom's birthday gift. Of course I had to jump on the jaywalker bandwagon.... I am using Koigu and am really enjoying knitting with it. I did however have a disasterous event occur while knitting these sockes. I splurged and bought some lantern moon needles for this specific gift and what should happen last night as I was trying to knit two together.... one fo the damn needles snapped in half. NOw here is the debate in our house. Sri thinks that I should return the needles and I think that I should just suck it up (although they are $30) because I am hard on my needles and that is probably why they snapped. Again I welcome any suggestions(if indeed anyone is actually reading this blog). Well I should get moving and get somemore of the socks done before Ruby gets home and demands my attention.

Finished all but the finishing

Finally!!!!!!! I have the front and back finished of my mom's vest ( I am safe to discuss Christmas gifts on this blog because I am very confident that no one in my family reads the thing). This vest seems like it took me forever because of the slip stitch pattern. I will be very happy once it is finished and blocked. As you can see there are a lot of ends t0 weave in. I know that I took a finishing class about one month ago and for the life of me I cant remember a damn thing I learned about mattress stitch and picking up stitches. I guess I will be cracking open the Vogue Knitting book that I searched high and low for but never understand the instructions. I think in the end I will probably end up in Knit ONe Chat too (my LYS) asking them to give me a hand.

Here is a close up of the pattern.... the only problem is that the picture is not so great.... you cant really determine the colours or the pattern (so I guess the pic is pretty much useless). I am going to try to put the vest together today but I am already thinking about the mitts that I have to start and the favour tags that I have to make for the wedding.
I still have tons of Christmas gifts to get and make ( i really thought I would futher ahead than I am...but I think that seems to be the theme for almost all knitting blogs that I have been reading).

Well Im off to do some laundry, do some groceries, do some Christmas clothes shopping, put away the knitting mess that I made this morning and clean up some dog poop from the back lawn ( oh my life sounds like a basket of delights).

Sleeves please!!!

This is going to be a quick post without pictures...the most boring kind. I have been trying to knit like a crazy woman to get my mom's gift finished but that slip stitch pattern is driving me NUTS and I am finding every excuse not to knit. I am also very afraid that the yarn that I am using has been discontinued and I have not bought enough of it to finish up the vest (I am a total loser when it comes to calculating how much I need). I am constantly thinking about the Christmas gifts that I still have to finish and am not giving much thought to the one gift that I am in the middle of making. I wonder if I will ever change or will I always be making my gifts right up until christmas morning??????
I am also thinking a lot about the vintage yellow and chocolate winter coat that I bought from a little shop downtown. Someone has taken the time to reconstruct the sleeves and make them ridiculously short.... I was wondering if it would work if I just knit up some cuffs in Rowan biggie in a rib pattern and attached them to the inside of the sleeves to make them longer. I want to wear the coat when I go home for Christmas.... it will look so cute with a nice pair of boots.... I just have to get my butt in high gear.
Ruby has been crazy with flyball (I don't even really know what that is but Sri and her go to the flyball gym every Sunday for the afternoon and they both come back very very tired. That is an excellent sport in my books...
Well I should get to knitting at least 4 rows before I go to bed........ I am dreading it.......I need to have the damn thing done by next week so I can move onto something new (perhaps some mitts and a hat and some sleeves for my coat)

Absentee Landlady

I know I have been totally neglecting this delightful blog since I have moved to Calgary... its not that I have been too busy...its just that I have been way too lazy to document the fact that I am way too lazy . I have however had time to visit the psychic fair that rolled through town... I have a feeling that they rolled in and out on the Greyhound. Chelsey, Mary and I went after work one day...the fair (if you could call it that) was being held in this tiny conference type room at a hotel in town. I must say that I really wasnt expecting the steep prices for readings but we were able to talk one particular psychic down from $125 to $60. Marlana Christiana was her name and she was hilarious. She claimed that I am the Earth Angel. I have no clue what the hell that means and quite frankly I dont think she did either. She read my palm, numerology, tarot and angel cards...she actually was pretty good after I got over the earth angel crap.

This picture of Ruby was taken on her first birthday (Oct 24th)... I know that she looks like a hell dog in the pic but really she was just barking at me. They gave her that bandana at daycare for her birthday..... in real life she actually looked pretty cute.

Beware...KNITTING CONTENT... just in case you forgot that I actuall did knit I thought it best to warn you.
Here is the back of the vest that I am making for my mom for Christmas... it is from Vogue International Fall (V-Neck vest). It is knit is slip stitch pattern which is really easy but tedious becuase it is a lot of moving the yarn back and forth. I really must learn to knit continental to make things easier for myself. I am on a tight schedule with the Christmas gifts what with all the stuff I still have to do for the wedding (which I dont even want to think about). I know that the picture does not really show my craftsmanship but I can't be perfect at absolutely everything ( I suck at taking pictures obviously).

My finished Christmas gifts. YOu will notice that there are quite a few pairs of socks. I just finished a class at KNit ONe Chat too...a toe up class... I am converted to toe up forever. I really hope that Rick likes them because that is the way I am knitting them from now on...END OF STORY.

I promise that I will update this blog more frequently, so for those dedicated readers don't despair I will be brightening up your life more often from now on.

This paper is going to be the liner for the envelopes...but I think i should use it somewhere on the invitations as well....the pattern is actually really small...the camera was on super zoom.

THis is a picture of the paper with the card stock...its gold...the saleswoman called it indian gold....have no clue what to do for the rest of the card stock.
